Collection: Northern Atlas Zemmour
Zemmour
Middle Atlas, Morocco
Nestled at the western edge of the Middle Atlas, the Zemmour weavers carried their art across the high plateaus between Khemisset, Khouribga, and the Rabat–Salé corridor. This liminal geography—where mountain meets plain, and tribal memory meets urban trade—gave rise to textiles that are both fiercely tribal and conversant with a broader mercantile world.
Zemmour compositions often reveal deep crimson grounds, lozenge lattices, and talismanic glyphs set in bold linear frames. They speak a language of fertility, endurance, and lineage continuity, while nodding to Rabat’s courtly sensibilities through refined symmetry and saturated palettes.
To collect a Zemmour rug is to embrace a weaving tradition at the crossroads of Atlas resilience and Atlantic exchange—an inheritance of ancestral order rendered with cosmopolitan poise.
