Rug Care

Every Atelier des Atlas rug carries the legacy of its weaver, its lineage, and the land that nurtured its wool. With thoughtful care, your rug will live on for generations, softening with time and spirit.

Daily Living & Respectful Use

Handmade rugs are meant to be lived with. Footsteps, light, and time will shape them — but respect and gentleness preserve them. Rotate your rug every few months to ensure even fading and wear.

Vacuuming & Airing

Vacuum regularly without using the brush roller — suction only. Avoid high-powered vacuums that may pull fibers. Once a season, air your rug outdoors in dry weather. Traditional Amazigh households beat rugs gently with a flat stick to release dust and renew energy.

Spills & Spot Cleaning

Blot spills immediately with a clean cloth — never rub. Use cold water and a pH-neutral soap if needed. Avoid harsh chemicals. For delicate dyes or deeper stains, consult a textile professional familiar with handwoven wool rugs.

Storage & Seasonal Rotation

If storing your rug, roll (never fold) it with acid-free paper or a clean cotton sheet. Store in a breathable cotton bag, not plastic. Keep in a dry space away from direct sunlight and moisture. Moth-repellent sachets (lavender, cedar) can help protect wool during long-term storage.

Professional Cleaning

We recommend professional cleaning every 2–3 years, especially for large rugs or those in high-traffic areas. Choose a service that specializes in handwoven wool rugs — preferably one familiar with tribal and natural-dyed textiles.
