Still Life in Wool – Aït Zayne Interpretation of Floral Form
Still Life in Wool – Aït Zayne Interpretation of Floral Form
Still Life in Wool presents a daring synthesis of tradition and modernity, emerging from the weaving ateliers of Beni Mrirt. Rendered in bold blocks of cream, black, and mustard, this rug reimagines the floral motif as a minimal, abstracted statement—more Bauhaus than Baroque.
Handwoven using fine Beni Mrirt wool, its construction boasts the plush tactility and high-density weave characteristic of the Central Middle Atlas. The asymmetrical composition channels the energy of mid-century European abstraction, while staying rooted in Amazigh weaving logic.
Featured Glyphs & Motifs
- Geometric Floral Block: interpreted as a stylized still-life bouquet, expressing abundance through minimalism.
- Unfilled Rectangles: symbolic of possibility, windows, or memory frames within contemporary Amazigh semiotics.
