Red Heirloom – Vintage Amazigh Zigzag Hanbel from the Zayan Plateau
Red Heirloom – Vintage Amazigh Zigzag Hanbel from the Zayan Plateau
Red Heirloom is a vintage Amazigh hanbel (flatweave) originating from the historic Zayan plateau. Woven in expressive tones of red, cobalt, and ivory, it carries the symbolic language of fertility and tribal heritage through its rhythmic zigzag patterning and hand-dyed wool.
This rug is a light and supple piece—easy to fold, transport, or drape—yet its powerful geometry anchors any room. Its design reflects deep-rooted traditions: the stepped chevrons and latticework are visual metaphors for lineage, vitality, and interconnectedness. The wool is sun-aged and softly faded in places, adding character and depth to its historic presence.
Red Heirloom belongs to a rare typology of tribal hanbels that blend decorative force with woven storytelling. It is a one-of-a-kind textile: irregularities in linework and tension are celebrated as signs of authenticity, echoing the artisan's unfiltered voice.
