Hand-knotted in the Marmoucha weaving tradition of the Middle Atlas using dense Moroccan wool, this piece replaces pattern and colour with modulation of the surface itself. Rows of softly domed rectangular blocks are separated by lower channels, so that the grid is drawn by pile height and the shadow it casts rather than by any contrasting yarn. The composition shifts with the movement of light, appearing almost uniform from one angle and strongly articulated from another.
